Explores two main topic areas: PLC and HMI machine applications. The learner will demonstrate the ability to learn to program a PLC they have not worked with before as well as an HMI they have not worked with before. Program drive parameters for a drive application. This course will teach students how to create a custom parameter group based upon drive applications. Throughout this course, the instructor will cover a range of topics from establishing communications with a PowerFlex 525 drive via a USB connection and Ethernet/IP network to test parameters of a PowerFlex 525 drive and control a drive in STUDIO 5000.

Learn what remote IO is and how to implement a POINT I/O system. The course will cover determining the quantity and type of I/O needed to test your system. This course will also show students how to calculate power requirements and decide whether an expansion power supply will be needed. Students will also add and configure an Ethernet adapter and I/O modules in a Studio 5000 Logix Designer project.

Autonomous robots will be controlled and reviewed to discover their capabilities. We will then utilize Oculus technology to review training options (fire extinguisher training, Lockout/tagout training). Microsoft Halolens units will be used to create mixed reality scenarios for class work and possible workplace training integration. 3D modeling will be used to develop simulations that will allow students to experience work that might not be conducive to our lab or too dangerous for us to do in the lab setting.

During class, learners will have the opportunity to practice the skills used to create/build graphic displays. Introduces the concept of looking at a current outdated automation process or future automation process and understanding how to correctly specify the hardware components that will be used to update the machine or process with today’s automation technology. The concept of creating and writing a project proposal will also be covered.
