Cost

The CPAT cost is $160. Registration includes two orientation sessions, two time trials and the test date.

Orientation *

CPAT orientations are held every-other Friday. Orientation sessions and the eight-week preparatory period prior to testing may be waived, but are strongly recommended. Sessions are approximately two hours in length. Orientation sessions will be held between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The exact time of day will be provided to the candidate via e-mail upon receipt of the CPAT Registration Form.

At the orientation session, candidates will view a videotaped presentation of the test, observe a demonstration of each event, receive "hands-on" familiarity with actual CPAT apparatus and receive guidance on specific conditioning regimens and techniques to help them prepare for the test.  Both orientations are the same, and participants are encouraged to attend at least one of the orientation sessions, if possible.

Time Trials *

Candidates will be offered the opportunity to do two practice “time trial” tests in the 30-day period leading up to a CPAT test date. Time trials are only offered to people who will be taking the CPAT test at the Northcentral Technical College Public Safety Center of Excellence test site. Practice Test sessions will be held between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The exact time of day will be provided to the candidate via email upon receipt of the CPAT Registration Form.

2019 CPAT Orientation, Time Trial and Testing Dates are conducted on Fridays at the Northcentral Technical College Public Safety Center of Excellence, 1603 Champagne St, Merrill, WI 54452.

During the orientation session, we will explain the testing process and how the equipment works. You will have the chance to ask questions and try the testing equipment. The pass rate of those who attend the orientations is higher than for those who do not, so it is highly recommended that you attend at least one of these orientations.

Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) - Test Out

The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) - Test Out is for a one-time try to challenge the CPAT course. Acknowledgment and waiver of CPAT orientation and/or conditioning period and/or timed practice runs will need to submitted.

CPAT Cancellations

Parameters set by the International Association of Firefighters and the International Association of Fire Chiefs has set very high standards for the proper delivery of CPAT. Maintaining consistency for all candidates is a priority. Therefore, CPAT may be cancelled due to a number of conditions affecting testing. The main reason for cancellation is adverse weather.
