The Nursing program uses a declaration process. The declaration process is how you gain acceptance into the core classes for this health program.
Declaration happens only during specific times during the year, but applications are accepted for programs with declaration requirements at any time. When you are ready to get started in program specific courses and have met declaration eligibility requirements, you will submit a declaration and follow the process for your program to determine admittance to program classes.
Declaration Prerequisites
There are two ways that students can potentially gain entry into core nursing classes. Consider the option that fits your needs and reach out to us with any questions that you may have, so we can help you prepare for success.
Option 1: Two Courses, HESI Exam Required
This option will be ideal for most students, and students likely will be able to declare for a spot in program sooner following this route.
To be eligible for this option, you must:
- Be enrolled in or have completed the following courses with a grade of “C” or better (please note that while completion of these courses is not required in order to declare, program acceptance is contingent upon successful completion of these courses with a grade of “C” or better):
- Submit official high school transcript with graduation date listed
Next Steps
After these prerequisites have been completed, students are eligible to declare and schedule a time to take the HESI A2 exam (a minimum of 75 percent is required to be considered for program acceptance).
Option 2: Five Courses, College GPA of 2.5+, HESI Exam Not Required
This option may be ideal for those students who have previously completed several science courses through the attainment of a bachelor degree.
To be eligible for this option, you must:
- Have a post-secondary cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better
Have completed the following courses with a grade of “C” or better (all courses except Nursing Assistant must be completed within five years prior to declaration date):
- Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- General Anatomy and Physiology
- Advanced Anatomy and Physiology
- Microbiology
- General Chemistry*
*May not be eligible for Financial Aid. Pre-requisite course may be required.
- Submit official high school transcript with graduation date listed
Next Steps
After these prerequisites have been completed, students are eligible to declare.
