Students are invited to explore NTC's welding lab in this summer camp experience. NTC welding faculty will lead students through the skills and equipment needed for welding design. Participants will learn welding basics and create a project to take home.
Introduces learners to the evolution of business and entrepreneurship. Learners analyze global, ethical and legal environments of business, explore the human side of business and examine the functional approach to information technology, marketing, human resource management, operations management and finance.
This course introduces the study of diversity from a local to a global perspective using a holistic, interdisciplinary approach that encourages exploration and prepares students to work in a diverse environment. The course introduces basic diversity concepts, examines the impact of bias and power differentials among groups, explores the use of culturally responsive communication strategies, and compares forces that shape diversity in an international context.
Explores the entire forest products supply-chain including sectors, current trends, career paths, and environments related to wood manufacturing. Establishes the importance of health and safety practices in the industry and introduces learners to various hazards they will encounter across industry, including sawmills, wood shops, and industrial settings. Learners will develop basic knowledge of OSHA, mills and shops in the forest products industry, and will have the opportunity to earn an NTC Forklift Operator Certificate.
Examine the evolution of the human services field. Distinguish the various types of human service agencies and occupations available in the field. Demonstrate the qualities of the field professionals. Assess boundaries and ethical issues commonly found in the human services professions. Apply reflective practitioner methods.
Apply and learn the operation of mills, lathes, drilling, grinding and general machining practices. This course is designed to give the learner the theory and hands-on training leading to the ability to work in a Machine Tool Lab. Individual part fabricating and precision measurement are covered.
Introduces the concept of setting up and programming various safety devices including GuardMaster Smart sensors, Programmable safety relays and safety PLC’s, The course will focus on how to setup, program and integrate safety components into your automation project.
Explores the scope of the horticulture sector, including career opportunities. Familiarizes learners with the Agriculture Center of Excellence and standard operating procedures. Learners will begin to develop a strategic college plan. Learners will be exposed to the various opportunities available throughout their program of study.
Compares equipment and techniques used in the major arc welding and thermal cutting processes. Learners perform introductory level welds in the SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW processes. Learners also perform material preparation skills including shearing, grinding and thermal cutting.
Examine issues often found in families that are affected by child abuse and neglect. Explore the social, environmental and biological components of child maltreatment. Determine the laws, agencies and procedures that are specific to child maltreatment. Define the role played by the helping professional in response to child maltreatment, including mandated reporting of abuse. Assess boundaries and ethical issues commonly found while working with child maltreatment. Apply reflective practitioner methods.
Introduces the field of IT software development and design. Learners will explore degree and career paths, IT tools and processes and begin to demonstrate professional communication. Learners will create or modify a simple computer program using an integrated development environment.
This course introduces the apprentice to the concepts of jig and fixture design as part of their apprenticeship related instruction. Topics include the basic elements of tool design, jig and fixture application, and the actual design of tooling.
Utilizes Wisconsin Statutes to conduct in-depth studies in juvenile law. Areas of concentration are crimes against children, children in need of protection and services, and the juvenile justice code. Analyzes the role of law enforcement and other agencies in responding to and investigating juvenile procedures. Methods and models of prevention and rehabilitation are evaluated.
Interested in making sourdough bread at home but not sure where to start? This class offers a clear, beginner-friendly introduction to sourdough baking through lecture and demonstrations. Participants will observe techniques, ask questions, and sample bread, but will not bake during class. All supplies are provided, and nothing needs to be brought. Topics include getting started with sourdough, caring for yeast, the basic recipe and fermentation process, and when and how to add flavors.
Focuses on the operation of trucks and equipment used in electric utility construction. Students will install utility poles, and URD equipment. Basic wood pole climbing techniques will be introduced. Learners will explore the overview of an electrical power system.
Introduces learners to overhead pole framing techniques. Builds on pole climbing techniques learned in Line Electrician Field Training 1 and introduces new techniques.
Explores the general overview of plant layout, machine centers, and different product flow in a lumber manufacturing setting. Learners focus on the mix of species, and how these can be utilized in various product lines, and examine the processing of lumber through sawing, edging, and trimming manufacturing operations.
Introduces the fundamentals of machine design and power transmission. The different types and capabilities of power transmission components (chain and belt drives, coupling, clutches, brakes, gear reducers, bearings, and electric motors) are introduced. The student will be capable of proper selection of commercially available power transmission components into systems using the principles of power, torque, and speed.
Applies shop safety guidelines and becomes familiar with common machine shop equipment. Focuses on drill press, power saw, elementary lathe and mill operations and pedestal grinding machines. Learners will gain knowledge in layout tools and procedures and the proper use of hand tools in the shop.
Provides fundamentals of computer-controlled machine tools to include conversational language and basic G & M code programming. Emphasis on increasing productivity, setup procedures, reliability, repeatability and flexibility. Basic G & M codes work coordinates machine axis information associated with CNC machining will be taught.
Prepares learners for Machine Tool Lab classes. Safety, the use of basic hand tools, power tools, and an overview of Manual and CNC machines are covered to aid the prospective machinist to work safely and efficiently in a Machine Tool Lab.
During this camp our NTC welding faculty member will lead the students through hands-on activities in the areas of welding, engineering and machine tool. The students will tour a local manufacturer, hear from role models working in the industry, and create a project they can be proud of. The camp wraps up with a celebration where students can showcase what they’ve learned and created.
Prepares students for the CDL road test by teaching safe and efficient operation of manual transmission commercial trucks using proper shifting techniques, including double-clutching and progressive shifting. It supports CDL candidates and CDL holders removing a manual transmission restriction in improving vehicle control, fuel-efficient driving habits, and confidence in real-world road and yard maneuvers.
Introduces an understanding of basic marketing fundamentals. The learner will explore consumer demographics, lifestyles and decision making; evaluate product distribution; promotions and price planning. The learner will create a Strategic Marketing Plan combining the components listed and develop a presentation.
Integrate the theory, practice and reflection of coursework. Provide services to guests in Studio Max Salon. Learners will perform services under the supervision of an instructor. Evaluate time management on service time to reflect industry readiness and manage salon flow efficiently. Learners will complete this course by working and observing on and off campus salon environments. Safety and Infection control will be practiced throughout this course.
Provides fundamental applications of basic arithmetic skills involving whole numbers, fractions and decimals, introducing basic algebra while solving problems using provided formulas unique and specific to the machining trade.
Incorporates the detailed study of mechanical power transmission system components. Included are gear, belt, chain and screw drive systems. Lab experiments include the selection, installation and maintenance of mechanical power transmission components and systems.
Introduces the techniques used in the design and analysis of mechanisms with application to machine design. Graphical and analytical methods are presented to study the motion characteristics (displacement, velocity and acceleration) of four-bar linkages, slider-cranks, cams, gears and other special mechanisms. The use of CAD and spreadsheets is emphasized.
Requires medical assistant students to integrate and apply knowledge and skills from all previous medical assistant courses in actual ambulatory health care settings. Learners perform medical assistant administrative, clinical, and laboratory duties under the supervision of trained mentors to effectively transition to the role of a medical assistant. This is a supervised, unpaid, clinical experience.
Introduces medical assistant students to the clinical procedures performed in the medical office setting. Students perform basic examining room skills including screening, vital signs, patient history, minor surgery and patient preparation for routine and specialty exams in the ambulatory care setting. Learner explore communication principles and psychology theories related to patient care.
Introduces the principles and practices of produce merchandising for roadside stands and farmers markets. Covers methods for assessing produce quality, grading standards, and their application in marketing channels. Explores creative visual merchandising techniques and the relationships between customer behavior, effective product display, and product purchase. Examines the structure and success factors of community-supported agriculture (CSA) businesses. Students actively participate in operating farmers market stands using produce grown during the course, applying merchandising concepts in real-time.
Investigates historical perspectives of microbiology, microscopy, characteristics of procaryotic and eucaryotic microorganisms, control of microbial growth, microbial genetics, and classification of microorganisms, principles of disease, epidemiology, immunology and pathogenic microbiology.
Experience in producing lunch meals through the use of grills, fryers, ovens and steamers. Service experience includes cafeteria line work and fast food delivery.
Explores the hierarchy of the forest products industry structure as it relates to sawmill production facilities. Learners will examine best practices and key performance indicators and apply these concepts in a live mill environment. Topics that learners will focus on include lumber yield, grade proficiency, optimization of production flow, and downtime mitigation.
This course introduces the apprentice to the basic mold making process, mold construction and components, and materials. The course provides related instruction for the tool and die, stamping die and mold makers apprenticeship programs.
Provides hands-on training in the nail/spa area located in Studio Max. This course will be taught in a lab setting providing nail care services to the public. While providing these services, learners will be practicing safety and infection control with procedures and professionalism required for lawful and effective salon practices. Prep for state boards in this course.
Nitro-X Automotive Summer Camp is designed to introduce middle school students to transportation careers. Students will work with NTC faculty, staff, and industry professionals to prepare, paint, and customize a remote-control car using the same materials and techniques used in the collision repair industry. Throughout the week, students will learn about various transportation careers through hands-on activities, field trips to dealerships and auto shops, and will prepare the car for the final race day.
This class introduces traditional Thai floor massage; a fully clothed therapy performed on a floor mat. Students will learn hands-on techniques using the hands, arms, elbows, knees, and feet to apply rhythmic leaning pressure, reflexology, acupressure, assisted stretching, breathwork, and yoga-inspired postures. This meditative modality focuses primarily on the legs while also addressing the feet, abdomen, arms, hands, face, neck, shoulders, and back. The practice promotes deep relaxation, improved flexibility, balanced energy flow, and enhanced circulation while supporting physical alignment and emotional release.
This advanced clinical course requires the student to integrate concepts from all previous courses in the management of groups of clients facing complex health alterations. Students will have the opportunity to further develop critical thinking skills using the nursing process in making clinical decisions. Continuity of care through interdisciplinary collaboration is emphasized.
This course focuses on the development of advanced clinical skills across the lifespan. Content includes advanced intravenous skills, blood product administration, chest tube systems, basic electrocardiogram interpretation and nasogastric/feeding tube insertion.
Prepares learners to perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a nurse for job entry as a nursing assistant or a home health aide (HHA) in health care agencies. Face-to-face and hybrid classroom, campus lab and clinical instruction are offered at various nursing homes and hospitals throughout the district. Students need to submit an application and complete background check.
This course focuses on topics related to health promotion for individuals and families throughout the lifespan. We will cover nursing care of the developing family, which includes reproductive issues, pregnancy, labor and delivery, post-partum, the newborn, and the child. Recognizing the spectrum of healthy families we will discern patterns associated with adaptive and maladaptive behaviors applying mental health principles. An emphasis is placed on teaching and supporting healthy lifestyles choices for individuals of all ages. Nutrition, exercise, stress management, empowerment, and risk reduction practices are highlighted. Study of the family will cover dynamics, functions, discipline styles, and stages of development.
This intermediate level clinical course develops the RN role when working with clients with complex health care needs. A focus of the course is developing skills needed for managing multiple clients across the lifespan and priorities. Using the nursing process, students will gain experience in adapting nursing practice to meet the needs of clients with diverse needs and backgrounds.
This course introduces the principles of pharmacology, including drug classifications and their effects on the body. Emphasis is on the use of the components of the nursing process when administering medications.
Explores grid sampling sizes, plant nutrient analysis, CEC, base saturation and nutrient management planning. Learners will apply classroom theory through hands-on activities such as grid sampling, plant identification and pest identification. Furthermore, learners will gain a greater understanding of plant nutrient testing and the implication of soil sampling test results. Learners will examine soil conservation practices, soil nutrition and pesticide application.
Prepares student dental hygienists to counsel patients about diet and its impact on oral health. Students learn to distinguish between balanced and unbalanced diets and to construct diets that meet the needs of patients with compromised dental/oral health. Students also learn to counsel patients about the effect of eating disorders on dental health.
Explore dental armamentarium and isolation techniques. Perform simple operative dental procedures in a pre-clinical setting. Students will discuss and practice techniques in tooth preservation, tooth preparation, material selection and final restoration placement for the permanent dentition.
Focuses on developing effective listening techniques and verbal and nonverbal communication skills through oral presentation, group activity, and other projects. The study of self, conflict, and cultural contexts will be explored, as well as their impact on communication.
Occupational safety is important in every work environment. Designed for general industry workers, foremen, job supervisors and anyone involved in general industry, the Outreach Training Program courses are an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by the Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910. When required by OSHA standards, workers must receive additional training on the specific hazards of their job. This training is recommended by OSHA. Attendees will receive an NTC certificate of completion, plus the official blue general industry wallet card issued by OSHA, to certify they successfully completed the course.
Apprentices will examine packing, seals and gaskets and compare materials and applications. Then skill in layout, cutting, inspecting, removing and installing these components will be developed.
The AHA’s PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. The goal of PALS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Explores Adobe Photoshop as a tool to create, adjust and manipulate images for print and web. Special attention is given to image manipulation techniques, color/tonal correction, resolution and output issues. Familiarity with Macintosh operating system suggested.
Introduces learners to the basic concepts of using Microsoft PowerPoint with hands-on, project based activities. Learners will develop foundational skills by applying concepts explored to create new presentations, adding and formatting slides, navigating a slide show, inserting images/backgrounds, adding transitions, adding animations and working with charts, WordArt and tables.
Introduces learners to the fundamental concepts and technologies used in precision agriculture through hands-on, experiential learning. Students explore the role of GPS/GNSS, basic mapping tools, remote sensing imagery, and field data collection in modern crop production. Activities include using GPS devices to collect georeferenced points, interpreting simple agronomic maps, and conducting basic crop scouting observations. Emphasis is placed on understanding how technology improves production efficiency, sustainability, and farm decision-making.
Provides an in-depth study of precision agriculture systems, data management tools, and site-specific crop management strategies. Learners examine the operation and accuracy of GPS/GNSS systems, yield monitors, grid and zone soil sampling, remote sensing technologies, and autosteer guidance and implement rate control systems. Students analyze agronomic data, interpret aerial imagery, create management zones, and develop variable-rate prescriptions using precision agriculture software. Hands-on lab work supports skill development in equipment operation, software use, and data interpretation for modern agronomic practices.
Apply machining concepts to produce parts within an assembly using precision machines. Learners will need to job plan the process in order to produce the parts in an efficient manner.
